Government focuses more on local auto industry, not exports

The Philippine government looks forward to prioritizing the exploitation of the domestic market of the local automotive industry rather than promoting exports, according to Department of Trade and Industry Board of Investments (BoI) Managing Head Cristino L. Panlilio.

Locally made utility vehicles can aggressively be brought forward by asking the Congress to lower excise taxes, said Panlilio.

In line with this, the agency is still working on the implementing rules for the new Motor Vehicle Development Program (MVDP).

The government aims to equally explore perks that are not just limited to Asian utility vehicles but also go beyond domestic market segments.
